Matthew Karnitschnig joined Euractiv as Editor-in-Chief in January 2025. Previously, he served as Chief Europe Correspondent at Politico, which he joined in 2015 upon its European launch. Before that, he spent 15 years at The Wall Street Journal as a reporter and editor in both the U.S. and Europe. During his tenure at the Journal, he played a leading role in covering several historic financial events, including the fall of Lehman Brothers and the Eurozone crisis.
Over the course of nearly three decades, he has also worked as a staff writer and correspondent for BusinessWeek, Reuters, and Bloomberg. Together with his colleagues at the Journal, he was a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and received both the Gerald Loeb Award—the highest honor in American financial journalism—and an Overseas Press Club Award.
